Travel Philosophies

Experiential travel is not just about checking destinations off a bucket list; it's about diving headfirst into the cultures, flavours, and rhythms of a place. It's about getting lost in the fragrant chaos of a Moroccan market, haggling for spices and trinkets, the air thick with exotic smells. It's about trekking through the misty mountains of Bhutan, the silence broken only by the crunch of your boots and the call of prayer flags fluttering in the wind.

Experiential travel is about pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, trying new things, and making memories that stay with you long after you've boarded your flight home. It's about connecting with people from all walks of life, sharing stories and laughter over steaming cups of tea or plates of unfamiliar food. It's about learning a new language, if only a few words, and feeling the pride of being understood.

It's about returning home not just with souvenirs, but with a changed perspective, a broadened mind, and a heart full of stories. It's about realising that the world is a much bigger, more vibrant place than you ever imagined, and that you, yourself, are capable of so much more than you ever thought possible.

So, ditch the package tours and embrace the unknown. Let your senses guide you, let your curiosity lead the way, and experience the world in all its messy, beautiful, unforgettable glory.

OTS is all about experiential travel, and the "Surprises" travel offers, like a secret local restaurant find, arriving at accommodations with no preconceived ideas, just knowing that Richard has checked it out, and knows that this property is delightful, well located and meets the style of the trip.  Meeting new and interesting travel companions who often become lifelong friends.
As we like to say, OTS is designed for the "almost independent traveller" and often we are the very first small group tour people have considered doing. Its wonderful when so many come back time and time again.

Small quirky local hotels beat the big chains anytime and other interesting travellers are often around as well.

Sometimes you just have to take it easy and relax.

Luxury is also fun, and you may be surprised as when we travel in off peak season some wonderful places are often affordable.

We don't follow the crowd, we do our own thing!

We save money where we can, here Ian gets a $1 haircut in Burma.

Stay in touch!
Almost every place we stay will have WIFI so bring along a smartphone or a tablet and stay in contact with those at home.

Hiking the "Great Walks" of New Zealand gay adventure and you get to see places few on earth have seen!

Doing something worthwhile is not always easy but the memories are sweet.

Some of the best places you just have to walk too, no roads here and a lunch stop to take in the view

Time out for a coffee, finding the quirky cafe's for or morning fix is half the fun. Havana Cuba

If you just let it happen travel can be a gateway to a new way of thinking.
