Argentina and the Andean North
Highlighting the best of Buenos Aires, the Andean region of Salta, and the mighty Iguazu Falls, all in one great adventure.
Argentina Explored inc Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Salta and the Andean North.
This is the trip for vibrant city lovers, but with a taste of nature at its most awe inspiring, (Iguazu falls and our exploration of the Andean north). On this trip we get into the Argentine way, with late starts to the day, think sleep ins and 10am starts (in the city) we dine with the locals at 9-10 pm and get to enjoy this city which comes to life at night. We dine together most evening and I take you to see the very best of the city for about 3-4 hours a day on my ''see the sights walks''. This is designed for mature boys 40's+, there will be a lot of walking, so a certain level of on your feet fitness is required. There are surprises and treats along the way, but that a secret. Be assured you will see all the major sights but the order we do them in will be weather dependant and the great thing on this trip is we have the time to be little flexible. Day 1-4 (4 nights) Buenos Aires We start in Buenos Aires, the cultural heart of Argentina, "faded grandeur" is how I would describe this city, which remains one of my all-time favourite travel destinations. There is Tango, Art, great food and wine, and of course one of Latin America's most vibrant nightlife cities. We stay in the San Telmo district to discover the heart of tango and bohemian life, in this old historic part of the city from where everything is easily accessible. There is time in Buenos Aires to head off exploring your own interests, like the art galleries, architecture, Gay district etc either on your own, or join me for my daily exploring through, San Telmo, La Boca, Palermo and Plaza de Mayo. We visit Evita's resting place, and explore the new city of Puerto Madero. Day 5-7 (3 nights) Iguazu From Buenos Aires we fly to Iguazu Falls arguably the world’s most spectacular waterfall (site for the movie the Mission) exploring these awesome falls from both the Argentine (full day) and Brazilian (1/2 day) side. There are rain-forest walks and birds in abundance. a real jungle feel here. Day 8-11 (4 nights) Salta and the North Next we fly on to Salta in the foothills of the Andes with its Spanish Andean feel, great folk music and excellent food tradition. Salta will be our base to explore this fascinating region. We will tour to see the in the wonderful town of Cachi with an overnight stop before heading on to Cafayate with its high altitude wineries, before returning back to our base in Salta. Day 12-13 (2 nights) Buenos Aires This time we stay in a very different area of Buenos Aires discovering the wealthy area of Recoletta and the Gay district of Palemo. Day 14 (departure day) It is time to say goodbye, and you can plan to leave anytime today to transfer back to the airport for for your onward flight. All accommodation is comfortable local 3+ star hotels, with the X factor, as always with our trips the accommodation is central to the interesting parts of the town, where you can walk out and go exploring from your room without the need to take transport. Preparation Learning a few words of Spanish will help you enjoy your trip a great deal more (I only know a few words but it sure helps, yes don't expect me to speak Spanish, I don't but I do know the city and country well and how it works). All hotels will have English speaking staff. Accommodation if you are travelling alone and happy to share, we can find you a roommate. For those who twin share and get lucky the "love'' hotel is just a few blocks away so always a solution in Latin countries where most live in the family home. Alternatively if you snore or like your own space I have negotiated some very reasonable room rates for a small single supplement. |
