Argentina Explored including, Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Salta, and the Andean North.
This is the trip for vibrant city lovers, but with a taste of nature at its most awe inspiring, (Iguazu falls and our exploration of the desert landscapes of the Andean north). On this trip we get into the Argentine way, with later starts to the day, think sleep ins and 10 am starts (in the city) we dine with the locals 8-10 pm enjoying great steaks and Argentinian wine, and get to enjoy this city which comes to life at night. We take you to see the very best of the city for about 3-4 hours a day on our ''see the sights walks'' with our local Argentinian guide. This trip is designed for mature boys 40's+, there will be a lot of walking, so a certain level of on your feet fitness is required. There are surprises and treats along the way, but that a secret. Be assured you will see all the major sights but the order we do them in will be weather dependant and the great thing on this trip is we have the time to be little flexible. Day 1-6 (6 nights) Buenos Aires (Paris of the south) We start in Buenos Aires, the cultural heart of Argentina, "faded grandeur" is how I would describe this city, which remains an all-time favourite travel destination. There is Tango, Art, great food and wine, and of course one of Latin America's most vibrant cities. We stay in the central district to discover the heart of the city, from where everything is easily accessible. The OTS philosophy is " this is your holiday and you have choices" 3 of the 6 evenings in BA you will be free to plan your own restaurants or join in with us and the group whichever suits you best. There is time in Buenos Aires each day to head off and explore your own interests, like the art galleries, architecture, Gay district etc either on your own, or join Richard for his daily exploring through, San Telmo, La Boca, Palermo and Plaza de Mayo. We visit Evita's resting place, and museum and visit some historic cafe's and restaurants. If time and weather allow we will make a day trip on the train to Tigre for a visit to the delta region (Optional) or take a break and have a chill day. Day 7-10 (4 nights) Salta and the Andean North Today we fly to Salta in the foothills of the Andes, with its Spanish Andean feel, folk music, and excellent food tradition. Salta feels very different to BA with its smaller town vibe and Spanish Andean feel, and this will be our base to explore this fascinating region. We have a 3 day 2 night tour from Salta to see the wonderful town of Cafayate with its high altitude wineries, before returning back to our base in Salta for a final night. Day 11-13 (3 nights) Iguazu Falls From Salta we fly to Iguazu Falls arguably the world’s most spectacular waterfall (site for the movie the Mission) exploring these awesome falls from both the Argentine and Brazilian side. There are rain-forest walks and birds in abundance. It's a real tropical jungle feel here. Day 14 : Departure day Its goodbye day today and you can depart anytime, either heading back to Buenos Aires, home or onto other parts of South America. All accommodation is comfortable local hotels, with the X factor. As always with our trips the accommodation is central to the interesting parts of the town, where you can walk out and go exploring from your room without the need to take transport. Preparation Learning a few words of Spanish will help you enjoy your trip a great deal more (I only know a few words but it sure helps, yes don't expect me to speak Spanish, I don't but I do know the city and country well and how it works, and we use local English speaking guides). All hotels will have English speaking front desk staff. Accommodation if you are travelling alone and happy to share, we can find you a roommate. For those who twin share and get lucky the "love'' hotel is just a few blocks away so always a solution in Latin countries where most live in the family home. Many of us like our own space and OTS has negotiated some very reasonable room rates for a modest single supplement. |
