Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, onto Bangkok, and then Angkor Wat. All in one amazing trip.
This trip is all about exploring the wonderful Pagodas and temples of Lana kingdom of Northern Thailand, the Royal palace and markets of Bangkok, and the wonders of Cambodia's, Angkor Wat. We get to explore the night markets, visit the 'White" "Blue", "Silver", "Gold", and "Black" temples, Then its on to Bangkok, dinner on the "Gay strip". Time to explore the Royal palace, and shop at the famous weekend Chatuchak market. All whilst sampling great Thai food in our favorite restaurants. . Chiang Mai (3 nights) We start in Chiang Mai, a delightful city with good arrival flight connections, the ideal place to start our trip. OTS has found some exceptional restaurants, the best places to enjoy an evening beer. Chiang Mai has some fun, quirky Gay bars, and it’s nice to have some venues where we get to meet the locals, watch some shows, and enjoy evening time and each other’s company. This is also a wonderful city to walk around, the old city has literally hundreds of temples and we will take you to see the very best of them. Chiang Rai (2 night) We have a day sightseeing as we head north to Chiang Rai, stopping for lunch on the way at the famous "Pie" shop. (3hr) In Chiang Rai we will be visiting the famed ''White'' and ''Blue'' pagodas and the erotic artistic delight of the "Black house". On our second morning we visit a couple of sights in the morning before heading to the airport and our short 1.5hr flight to Bangkok. Bangkok (3 nights) "One night in Bangkok" as the song goes, well its actually 3 nights. The day we arrive will have dinner on the famous Soi 4 the "Gay" street for some Friday night people watching. The next morning we head by long boat, up the river to spend the day exploring the Royal Palace, and Kho-san road. The second full day is a Sunday, and we will head in the morning up to the famous weekend Chatuchak market, where you will have the rest of the day 'Free time" to shop and explore to your hearts desire. This evening pick a restaurant of your choice, or meet up with friends. On the Monday morning after a leisurely breakfast we will head to the airport for our short 1hr flight to Siem Reap. Siem Reap (5 nights) Siem Reap is a delightful town, situated on a lovely river setting and will be our base as we explore the wonders of Angkor Wat, a complex of temples that is truly one of the great wonders of the ancient world. We will purchase the 3 day pass for the temples and visit them for a few hours each day showcasing the best, at the most interesting time of the day for the lighting and atmosphere. The inner temples we visit using open air Tuk Tuks and the outer temples we use a aircon minivan and driver. Along the way I have found some exceptional restaurants, the best places to enjoy an evening beer, and some superb massage spas, to indulge and relax in during the hot afternoons. There are some fun, quirky Gay bars and nightclubs where we get to meet the locals, watch some shows and enjoy evening time and each others company. Siem Reap is the happy hour cocktail star of Asia, and I know some good spots. Our charming hotel has an X factor style and is perfectly located, walking distance to the town, but in a charming quiet area, with of course a swimming pool and gay friendly staff. Accommodation is a highlight of this trip and I have chosen some lovely properties located in the heart of where we want to be, so expect to be able to walk out of the hotel and be in the middle of the action. All are of 3-4 star quality and have been chosen for their location and ambiance. All have ensuite bathrooms, aircon and a swimming pool. As with all our trips let go of the concept you're signing up for a structured tour, you're not, you're joining us on a Thailand and Laos adventure , yes it’s a semi structured adventure with all the hard work done, but it is nevertheless an adventure. Things will go wrong some days, and changes will need to be taken in their stride, you will need your wits about you, and to expect to do some exploring on your own occasionally. |
