The best of Laos and Northern Thailand
Luang Prabang, pagodas, temples, festivals, colour and natural wonders, along with the joys of meeting a wonderful people.
An amazing 11 day adventure.
Experience the magical "Lai Heua Fai" festival of the fire boat. This trip combines the magical royal city of Luang Prabang with a 2 day cruise up the mighty Mekong river, and some of the best sights of Northern Thailand all in one trip. This trip is one for the "foodies" and we get to experience some amazing local restaurants on this trip, Luang Prabang (4 nights) The UNESCO listed former Royal Capital of Luang Prabang, a true gem. Here we stay in a lovely hotel in the old city, perfect for heading out on foot to explore at your leisure. We get to visit the fabled waterfalls, and take in some of the most beautiful Buddhist Wat's in the whole of Asia, whilst spending time with novice monks practicing their English. This trip is timed to coincide with the magical "fire boat festival" which was such a highlight on our last trip. 2 days river cruising up the Mekong river (1 inc night in a amazing Eco lodge on-route) After breakfast we board our luxury long boat for a trip of a lifetime as we head up the Mekong river, stopping on the way to see the Cave temples and local villages. The scenery is wonderful on this stretch of the river as the banks are high and covered in native forest. Our overnight accomodation is in one of my favorite places in Asia set alone on the banks of the river. Chiang Rai in Thailand (2 night) At the end of our 2 day on the river, we will cross over the border into Thailand where we are picked up by our driver for the 1.5 hr trip to Chiang Rai and time to chill out this evening after a long travel day. Here we will be visiting the famed ''White'' and ''Blue'' pagodas and the artistic delight of the "Black house". Chiang Mai (3 nights) Chiang Mai is the capital of the old Lana kingdom and a wonderful city to end our trip. I have found some exceptional restaurants, the best places to enjoy an evening beer, and some superb massage spas to indulge and relax in during the hot afternoons. Chiang Mai has some fun, quirky Gay bars, and it’s nice to have some venues where we get to meet the locals, watch some shows, and enjoy evening time and each other’s company. This is also a wonderful city to walk around, the old city has literally hundreds of temples and I will take you to see the very best of them. Finish Our last day and its a leisure with time for last min shopping before heading to the airport where there are good onward flight connections. Or extend your stay for a few days in this lovely city. If you have more time. This trip can easily be extended, there are direct flights from Chiang Mai to many of Thailand best beach spots, inc Krabi, Puket, Koh Samui and Pattaya. Accommodation is a highlight of this trip and I have chosen some lovely properties located in the heart of where we want to be, so expect to be able to walk out of the hotel and be in the middle of the action. All are of 3-4 star quality and have been chosen for their location and ambiance. All have ensuite, bathrooms, air conditioning and some have beautiful swimming pools to enjoy. As with all our trips let go of the concept you're signing up for a structured tour, you're not, you're joining us on a Thailand and Laos adventure , yes it’s a semi structured adventure with all the hard work done, but it is nevertheless an adventure. Things will go wrong some days, and changes will need to be taken in their stride, you will need your wits about you, and to expect to do some exploring on your own occasionally. |
