Argentine Tango 1
This is the trip for vibrant city lovers, but with a taste of nature at its most awe inspiring, (with our 2/3 days at Iguazu falls).
On this trip we get into the Argentine way, with late starts to the day (think sleep ins and 10-11 starts) we dine with the locals at 9-10 pm and get to enjoy this city which comes to life at night. Yes we will visit a couple of Argentinian Gay bars but be aware discos don't even open till 1 am and with most of us over 50 it takes stamina so we will save the night out until our last Friday night.
We dine together every evening and I take you to see the very best of the city for about 3-4 hours a day on my ''see the sights walks''. So think total holiday not a boot camp ticking off sights, this is designed for mature boys, but there will be a lot of walking so a certain level of on your feet fitness is required. There are surprises and treats along the way, but that a secret. Be assured you will see all the major sights but the order we do them in will be weather dependant and the great thing on this trip is we have the time to be little flexible.
We start in Buenos Aires, the cultural heart of Argentina, faded grandeur is how I would describe this city, which remains one of my all-time favourite travel destinations. There is Tango, Art, great food and wine, and of course one of Latin America's most vibrant nightlife cities. We stay in the San Telmo district to discover the heart of tango and bohemian life, in this old historic part of the city from where everything is easily accessible.
There is time in Buenos Aires to head off exploring your own interests, like the art galleries, architecture, Gay district etc either on your own, or join me for my daily exploring through, San Telmo, La Boca, Palermo and Plaza de Mayo. We visit Evita's resting place, take a day trip to Tegre on the coastal train, and explore the new city of Puerto Madero.
From Buenos Aires we fly to Iguazu Falls arguably the world’s most spectacular waterfall (site for the movie the Mission) exploring these awesome falls from both the Argentine (full day) and Brazilian (1/2 day) side. There are rain-forest walks and birds in abundabce. a real jungle feel here.
We have a leisurely start to the morning before transferring back to the airport of our flight back to Buenos Aires for our final 2 nights, this Friday evening we stay up late having a end of trip meal together before hitting the gay nightlife in Palermo, this is a late one so Saturday is recovery and in afternoon a last chance for some shopping.
Most flights to BA from Ozi, NZ, USA and Europe are overnight and leave late evening so on the Sunday after checkout we leave our bags at the hotel and a lovely way to spend the last day is in Tigre where we head on the train for lunch and then pick up bags on the way back before heading to the airport. (also option to fly out late sat night if work on Monday)
All accommodation is comfortable local 3+ star hotels, with the X factor, as always with our trips the accommodation is central to the interesting parts of the town, where you can walk out and go exploring from your room without the need to take taxi’s or transport.
Learning a few words of Spanish will help you enjoy your trip a great deal more (I only know a few words but it sure helps, yes don't expect me to speak Spanish, I don't but I do no the city well and how the country works). All hotels will have English speaking staff.
Accommodation if you are travelling alone and happy to share, we can find you a roommate. For those who twin share and get lucky the "love'' hotel is just a few blocks away so always a solution in Latin countries where most live in the family home. Alternatively if you snore or like your own space I have negotiated some very reasonable room rates for a small single supplement.
